Together, we will explore how experiences of maritime (refugee) migration are (or can be) brought to light, and what opportunities transdisciplinary collaboration opens up. The focus is on the intersections of cinematic, photographic, and scholarly approaches that highlight different forms of storytelling and research.

The event includes a screening of “When the Water Horse Seeks a New Home,” which addresses the flight of the Rohingya, as well as a documentary report from a research trip to Lampedusa. Taking these two maritime border regions—the Andaman Sea and the Mediterranean—as a starting point, artists and scholars will then discuss the perspectives, challenges, and responsibilities involved in visual representations of migration.
