DESCRIPTION:Finissage: "We are the Anthropocene - The horror and beauty of
global change" - Lecture by Dr. Günter Wahlefeld "Images of the world be
fore the end of the world" (former Natural History Museum Reutlingen)\n\nT
oday\, there is no place on earth untouched by humans. Human-made change g
oes far beyond climate change. It also affects soils\, oceans\, plants\, a
nimals and geochemical cycles. In short\, humans have become a significant
geological factor. Humans have an impact as powerful as that of natural f
orces such as earthquakes. Our actions today will have an effect far into
the geological future. That is why we speak of a new geological epoch of h
umans\, the ‘Anthropocene’. According to current research\, this new g
eological epoch began in the middle of the twentieth century.\n\nIn this p
hotographic exhibition\, ethnologist and geologist Christoph Antweiler fro
m the Institute of Oriental and Asian Studies (IOA) shows the causes and c
 onsequences of this problematic development.
